from covid-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was discovered in 2019. It is caused by the a virus named SARS-CoV2 which is a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS. It is highly contagious and common signs of infection are majorly respiratory symptoms.
How contagious is it?
COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person to person, including between people who are physically near each other (within about 6 feet). People who are infected but do not show symptoms can also spread the virus to others. Cases of reinfection with COVID-19 have been reported but are rare. We are still learning about how the virus spreads and the severity of illness it causes.
Cough/sneeze from an infected person
When people with COVID-19 cough, sneeze, sing, talk, or breathe they produce respiratory droplets. Infections occur mainly through exposure to respiratory droplets when a person is in close contact with someone who has COVID-19.
Human Contacts with infected person
People who are physically near (within 6 feet) a person with COVID-19 or have direct contact with that person are at greatest risk of infection. Droplets from infected person(s) are more likely to settle on the mucous membrane of others with close contact.
Contaminated Objects/Surface
Respiratory droplets can also land on surfaces & objects. It's possible that a person could get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes. Spread from touching surfaces is not common.
Travel to endemic region
Travelling to destinations with large cases of Covid-19 also poses significant risk as the chances of coming in close contact with infected people increases with community transmission. You may need to assess your risk when making travel plans.
Here are some of the symptoms of Covid-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has been previously identified in humans. People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Common signs of infection are majorly respiratory symptoms.

How can it be prevented?

Guidelines for
Home Quarantine
Avoid large crowds
Large crowds like religious gathering e.g church, mosques or other form of public gatherings increases the risk of getting infected
Stay away from elderly people
These are vulnerable age groups and are more susceptible to infection especially covid-19. Risk for severe illness with COVID-19 increases with age, with older adults at highest risk.
Stay away from people with chronic conditions
These group of people are more likely to come down with severe illness because of their pre-existing conditions
Take everyday preventive actions
Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from other people. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
